Police operations led to seven arrests and 211 traffic complaints overnight, highlighting a significant effort to maintain public order across urban areas.

Throughout the night, police maintained an increased presence in key parts of the city. These operations were designed to deter serious criminal acts and protect citizens, according to a statement from the local police department.

Details of Arrests Made

Among the seven individuals arrested during these operations, a range of offences were recorded:

  • One person was detained for the illegal possession of a small quantity of drugs.
  • A 63-year-old man was arrested in connection with a building burglary.
  • Another individual faced charges related to domestic violence.
  • Two suspects were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol.
  • One person was arrested for illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus.
  • Lastly, one individual was taken into custody for failing to comply with police instructions.

Traffic Control Measures

In addition to the arrests, police conducted extensive traffic controls, stopping over 600 vehicles and screening more than 750 occupants. This proactive approach aimed to identify and address potential traffic violations and enhance road safety.

Volume of Traffic Complaints

Following these checks, a total of 211 complaints were issued for various road violations. Notably, there were 87 complaints for excessive speed and 25 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police also performed drug tests on drivers, with four testing positive.

A total of 438 alcohol tests were conducted, demonstrating the police’s commitment to ensuring safe driving practices. As a result of these operations, eight vehicles were seized due to traffic offences.

Inspections of Premises

Police also inspected 34 premises to deter delinquent behaviour, resulting in four complaints related to licensing violations. This comprehensive strategy reflects a broader initiative to promote public safety and order within the community.
