The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) initially reported the intensity of the recent earthquake as between 5.3 and 5.9, but shortly thereafter revised it to a confirmed 5.3. This adjustment comes after earlier estimates had suggested the quake might have reached a magnitude of 5.6.
The seismic activity has raised concerns among residents, with many reporting feeling the tremors. A tweet from EMSC called for those who felt the quake to share their experiences via crowdsourced reports, as the automatic detection systems are still being verified.
As the situation develops, reports indicate that multiple aftershocks have been felt across Cyprus, leading to disruptions in telephone services. Residents are advised to remain cautious as aftershocks may continue.
