At the time, a 51-year-old colleague was operating a vehicle-mounted crane to unload heavy concrete counterweights, each weighing between two and three tonnes. As the unloading process was underway, the truck unexpectedly overturned to the right.
Witnesses reported that Mr Alexandru was thrown from the vehicle and struck by one of the concrete blocks. Emergency services were alerted, and he was quickly transported by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital. Unfortunately, medical staff confirmed his death shortly after arrival.
Authorities swiftly responded to the scene, with officers from the Kofinou Police Station and officials from the Department of Labour Inspection conducting a thorough investigation. As part of their enquiries, the 51-year-old crane operator was arrested under a court warrant and is currently in custody, pending further investigation.
