Students in Cyprus are taking on the role of wildlife detectives as part of a new educational programme that focuses on the endangered Griffon Vulture. This initiative offers secondary school students a unique opportunity to investigate crimes against wildlife and understand the critical situation surrounding this majestic bird.

Launched by BirdLife Cyprus, the programme is facilitated by the Education Unit for Environment and Sustainable Development within the Ministry of Education. It is specifically delivered through the Akrotiri Community Environmental Education Centre, where students delve into the pressing issue of wildlife conservation.

Griffon vulture: Learning Through Investigation
The programme, aptly titled “On the brink of extinction – vultures in Cyprus,” immerses students in an interactive learning environment. Participants are transported to a simulated crime scene where a Griffon Vulture has been found dead. This setting allows them to investigate the potential causes and circumstances of the bird’s demise, reinforcing the importance of each individual vulture for the species’ survival.
Hands-On Educational Experience
