limassol industrial — limassol industrial — Upgrades to Limassol’s Agios Athanasios industrial area are in motion, with the construction of a new access point that began last month. This initiative aims to improve safety and traffic flow in one of Limassol’s busiest business zones.

Limassol industrial: New Access Point to Boost Safety
According to Entrepreneurial Limassol, a periodical from the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this project is entering a new phase, with the additional entrance-exit expected to be completed within four months. This new connection is crucial for the approximately 120 businesses operating in the Agios Athanasios industrial area, which collectively employ more than 5,000 people.
Addressing Long-Standing Concerns
The Public Works Department has awarded the contract for the access point to AN. Christou Properties and Constructions Ltd for €198,550, part of a total estimated project cost of €250,000. The new road will stretch for approximately 500 metres, providing a second entrance and exit that addresses long-standing concerns regarding access during emergencies and potential evacuations.
“The creation of a second exit has been a long-standing request from businesses operating in the area because a serious problem existed in the event of an emergency or the need to evacuate the zone,” explained Vasos Demetriades, President of the Agios Athanasios Industrialists Association.
Future Plans for Traffic Management
Mayor Kyriakos Xydias of Amathounta highlighted that while this project will enhance safety and alleviate some traffic congestion, it is merely a temporary solution. “The permanent resolution of traffic problems requires the connection of the industrial area to the motorway, as well as the construction of the vertical road axis on the eastern side of the area,” he remarked.

Further Developments on the Horizon
Plans are also underway for a second entrance-exit in the 3rd Industrial Area in Agios Silas, located within the Municipality of Kourion. Mayor Pantelis Georgiou confirmed that the relevant documents have been prepared and submitted to the Tenders Board, with assurances from the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry that funding for this construction has been approved. “Consequently, we have been given the green light to proceed with the studies so that we will be ready to move forward with construction works in 2027,” he added.
In the meantime, ongoing works in the 3rd Industrial Area include pavement reconstruction and road resurfacing, with pavement works currently in progress and resurfacing expected to begin within the next two weeks.
Long-Term Infrastructure Improvements
The developments in Limassol’s industrial zones follow comments made during the latest Annual General Meeting of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where former Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry George Papanastasiou indicated that second entrances-exits for both the Agios Athanasios and Ypsonas industrial areas are slated for implementation in 2026. These projects aim to enhance traffic management and bolster the capacity of industrial areas during emergencies.
Additionally, improvements are planned for the Monagroulli Industrial/Craft Zone, where construction of a new road network is anticipated to commence in late 2026 or early 2027. This initiative is expected to resolve long-standing access issues affecting businesses in the area, particularly as the road leading to the industrial zone has remained unpaved for years.
Entrepreneurial Limassol reported in December 2025 that this project had entered its final preparation stage, following the completion of tender documents by the Public Works Department and the securing of consent from the Holy Metropolis of Limassol for the necessary land acquisitions. With these steps completed, construction works are set to begin once final procedures are finalised.
