By 11:30 am, crews had full control of both fires, preventing further spread. The fire near Agia Varvara consumed one hectare of stubble, while the blaze close to Anarita devastated ten decares of bushes and low wild vegetation.
Efforts to extinguish the flames involved a coordinated response from multiple agencies. A total of four personnel from the Forestry Department, equipped with one fire engine, were joined by four Fire Service staff operating two fire engines. Additionally, two members from the Game and Fauna Service brought another fire engine to the scene.
Authorities are currently investigating the causes of the fires to prevent future occurrences and ensure community safety. As the smoke clears, local residents express relief at the swift action taken by firefighters, averting what could have been a more significant disaster.
