nicosia roads — nicosia roads — Traffic restrictions will be implemented in central Nicosia on Wednesday due to the opening ceremony of Cyprus’s EU Council Presidency. The event is set to commence at 18:30 at the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOK) building, according to local police.

In preparation for the ceremony, parking will be strictly prohibited on several key streets, including Dimostheni Severi, Gr. Afxentiou, Michail Karaoli, Lord Byron, Kosti Palama, Omirou, Anastasiou Leventi, Evagoras, Diagoras, and Vasileos Pavlou. The Nicosia Municipality has also declared that private vehicle parking will not be allowed throughout the day in the underground car parks located at the old GSP stadium.

From 14:30, roads surrounding the THOK area will be closed, and access will be controlled. Police are advising drivers to adhere to the closures and follow the guidance of officers on duty to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Additionally, a Transport Minister’s order (K.D.P. 03/2026) enforces a ban on the use of drones in the vicinity of THOK and the Conference Centre. The coordinates of this restricted zone have been detailed in the order, and the prohibition will remain in effect throughout the entire presidency period.
