Organisers intend for the hackathon to condense months of startup learning into just one day, honing business ideas and entrepreneurial skills. They believe that such initiatives will further solidify Cyprus’s rising status as a notable tech hub.
“Cyprus is a rapidly growing hub for IT and startups, attracting talent and capital from surrounding European and MENA sources,” noted Zubr Capital in their announcement. The firm, which boasts over $250 million in tech investments across 20 companies, including two unicorns, aims to provide students with insights into how funding and support can enhance the growth of new technologies.
Through this venture, Zubr Capital demonstrates its commitment to nurturing the local tech community. The hackathon will cover essential startup phases, such as identifying market needs, developing minimum viable products, and creating effective pitches for investors.
Participants will receive guidance from a distinguished group of mentors, including Oleg Khusaenov, founder and CEO of Zubr Capital, Nikita Krivelevich, investment director, and Anna Khechoyan, investment manager. They will be joined by several other industry leaders, such as Sergey Osipov and Ulad Radkevitch, providing a wealth of experience for attendees.
Oleg Khusaenov remarked, “When students and startups collaborate, it offers more than accelerating individual projects. This hackathon will be a platform to strengthen the entire startup ecosystem.” His sentiments were echoed by Nikita Krivelevich, who highlighted the event as an opportunity for students to experience the full startup journey, from concept testing to pitching.
Students will gain exposure to the complete cycle of startup development, receiving direct feedback from experienced entrepreneurs and investors. For many, this will be their first encounter with the pressures and opportunities found within the broader European and international startup landscapes.
The hackathon welcomes students from various universities across Cyprus, presenting a unique chance to acquire practical startup experience and mentorship from industry veterans whose influence has reached global markets. Startups, in turn, will benefit from fresh perspectives as students provide unbiased feedback on their projects.
This collaborative exchange is expected to yield innovative solutions, clearer strategic directions, and swifter market entry for participating startups. The event aims to enhance understanding of product development, emphasising the importance of input from participants, mentors, and investors.
Attendees will witness how theoretical knowledge is applied in high-pressure situations and how ideas can evolve into scalable, resilient businesses. Zubr Capital envisions this hackathon as the first in a series, intending to establish an ongoing platform that fosters collaboration between students and entrepreneurs, further enriching Cyprus’s expanding tech ecosystem.
Beyond developing prototypes and pitches, the true value of this event lies in the direct engagement with seasoned founders and investors who have successfully scaled their ideas into global enterprises.
