dogs dead — dogs dead — The Green party of Cyprus has called for a full investigation after several dogs were found dead in an unfenced water reservoir located within the Astromeritis buffer zone. This tragic discovery has been described by party officials as an act of “barbarism” and “criminal negligence.”
Social media posts from the party included a video showing the lifeless bodies of stray dogs that had reportedly been swept into the reservoir and drowned. The shocking images have raised serious concerns about safety measures in place at the site.
The Green party highlighted the lack of basic fencing and safety protocols as a significant failure on the part of those responsible for the reservoir. “Who is responsible? Why was there no fencing? Why were no preventive measures taken?” the party questioned, directing their concerns towards Aris Constantinou, the leader of the Astromeritis community council, and the Evrychou police.
In a unified statement with the animal party, the Green party demanded immediate action. They called for the reservoir to be secured without delay and for similar sites to undergo inspections to prevent further tragedies. Furthermore, they insisted on “exemplary punishment” for anyone found culpable in this incident.
The statement from the Green party emphasised a broader ethical obligation, asserting that “protecting life, human and animal, is an obligation”. The urgency of their message underscored the need for accountability and improved safety measures to prevent a recurrence of such distressing events.
