In an official statement, Larnaca municipality stated that the system is now operating normally, allowing residents to make payments and receive services again at the citizen service counters in Larnaca, Livadia, and Voroklini.

The temporary disruption had prevented the processing of payments and other municipal transactions, prompting the municipality to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this period.

Before the restoration, officials announced that the system was out of service due to technical problems at Microsoft. This situation affected access to essential digital services, leading to frustration among residents who rely on the Evagoras system for various municipal functions.

In light of the disruption, the municipality issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and assured residents that updates would follow once the issue was resolved.

The Evagoras system is part of a broader initiative known as the “integrated information system for Cyprus municipalities,” which was implemented by the union of municipalities under the national Thalia 2021-2027 programme. This project is co-funded by the European Union and aims to modernise local government through digital transformation.

Kyriaki Pantziarou, a senior officer at the deputy ministry of research, clarified in a conversation with Cyprus Mail that the deputy ministry is not responsible for the recent technical problems affecting the Evagoras system. She stated, “The responsibility for maintaining and operating the system lies entirely with the union of municipalities, which oversees its day-to-day functioning. The ministry has no direct control over the system’s technical performance or infrastructure. Any issues that arise must be addressed by the union, as they manage the platform and coordinate with the service providers.”

The Cyprus Mail attempted to reach out to the union of municipalities for comment on the technical issues but did not receive a response.
