  • A four-year-old girl has died from influenza type A after being admitted to Limassol general hospital, marking a tragic outcome in the ongoing flu season.

The young patient was rushed to the hospital on Saturday and subsequently transferred to the ICU unit at Nicosia’s Makarios hospital due to her critical condition. Despite the medical team’s efforts, she succumbed to multi-organ failure caused by the virus on Monday. “According to the attending physicians, the cause of death was multi-organ failure as a result of Influenza A,” stated Charalambos Charilaou, spokesperson for the state health services (Okypy).

This incident comes amid a reported increase in hospitalisations for both Covid-19 and influenza A in Limassol over the weekend. Health authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and consider vaccination, especially for vulnerable groups.

The flu season has posed a significant challenge, with local hospitals feeling the strain from rising patient numbers. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation and have highlighted the importance of early intervention and treatment for flu symptoms.
