The incident occurred on Thursday morning when Kourras was paragliding with a companion in the Parasolia area of Kiti. At approximately 8.30am, police reported that Kourras lost control of his glider while flying at a low altitude over the sea.
Witnesses said that Kourras’s glider plummeted and struck rocks near the beach, prompting immediate emergency action. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and Kourras was transported to Larnaca General Hospital. Sadly, medical personnel confirmed his death shortly after arrival.
Authorities quickly responded to the tragedy. The joint rescue coordination centre (JRCC) activated the ‘Nearchos’ search and rescue national plan at 9.05am upon receiving information about a person in distress along the Mazotos coast.
In the aftermath, the police and members of the air accident investigation committee arrived to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall. They are currently working to determine what led to Kourras losing control of his glider.
