- The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow heat warning for Friday, highlighting extreme maximum temperatures that can impact daily activities.
Heat warning: Forecasted Conditions
The warning will be in effect from 12:00 noon until 17:00 on 22 August 2025, with inland areas projected to reach a sweltering 41°C. Coastal regions will experience varying conditions based on specific locations, while mountainous areas are expected to see temperatures around 32°C.
Winds and Sea Conditions
A seasonal low-pressure system is influencing the weather, resulting in predominantly clear skies with occasional localised low cloud cover. Morning winds will start off as light and variable at approximately 3 Beaufort before shifting to predominantly southwesterly to northwesterly directions, increasing in strength to 3-4 Beaufort. Coastal areas might see temporarily moderate to strong winds at 4-5 Beaufort, with sea conditions remaining smooth to slight.
Temperature Variations Across Regions
Today’s maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 41°C inland, around 35°C in southeastern, southern, and northern coastal areas, and approximately 32°C in western and southwestern coastal regions as well as higher mountain areas. Overnight, conditions should remain mostly clear with possible localised low cloud increases. Late-night and early morning hours may see thin fog or mist, particularly in southern and eastern areas.
Saturday and Beyond
As temperatures peak on Friday, the outlook for Saturday suggests that conditions will maintain levels above seasonal norms before a gradual cooling trend begins on Sunday. By Monday, temperatures are anticipated to approach the average for this time of year.
