Thunderstorms have swept across Cyprus, impacting several regions since the early hours of Tuesday. The Meteorological Service reported that these isolated strong storms first struck the western and southern coastal areas before gradually moving inland, leading to the issuance of a yellow weather warning that was lifted by 9am.
- Throughout the week, temperatures are expected to remain slightly above seasonal averages, offering a mild respite from the winter chill.
As the day progressed, the Meteorological Service continued to forecast cloudy conditions with the possibility of local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to reach around 18 degrees Celsius inland, approximately 20 degrees along the coast, and drop to about 9 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.
Forecasts indicate that hail could accompany the thunderstorms, and the highest peaks of Troodos may even see sleet or snow. The prevailing winds are expected to blow mainly from the northeast to southeast at a light to moderate force of 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea conditions are likely to remain slightly rough.
A weak low-pressure system is currently influencing the area, contributing to the atmospheric conditions, which include thin dust suspended in the air at intervals. As night approaches, conditions are predicted to turn partly cloudy with isolated rain expected mainly in coastal regions. The winds will shift to a northwest to northeast direction, staying light at force 3 Beaufort, and the sea is anticipated to calm slightly. Overnight temperatures will fall to around 9 degrees inland, 12 degrees on the coast, and 4 degrees in the mountains, where frost is possible in sheltered areas.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the forecast calls for partly cloudy weather with more isolated rain expected. The pattern of mainly cloudy conditions is set to continue into Thursday and Friday, with the likelihood of isolated rain or thunderstorms, particularly after midday.
Throughout the week, temperatures are expected to remain slightly above seasonal averages, offering a mild respite from the winter chill.
