A yellow weather warning has been issued for Storm Barbara, which is set to impact Cyprus’ west coast. The alert was announced by the Met Office on Tuesday, with the warning in effect from midnight until 9am on Wednesday.
The severe storms are expected to primarily affect the western and southern coasts before moving eastwards across the island. As the storm gathers strength, residents are advised to prepare for a range of weather conditions.
Forecasters have warned that hailstones may accompany the storms, and winds are expected to strengthen significantly. Rainfall is predicted to be intense, with rates between 35 and 55 millilitres per hour, which could lead to localised flooding.
As temperatures drop overnight, inland areas may see lows of 16 degrees Celsius, while coastal regions are expected to remain slightly warmer at 18 degrees Celsius. In the mountains, temperatures could plummet to around 10 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office has urged the public to stay informed and take precautions during this weather event. It is crucial for residents and visitors alike to remain vigilant as Storm Barbara approaches, ensuring safety and preparedness in the face of potential disruptions.
