The Fire Service has received several tips regarding the conditions that led to the fire’s outbreak. Massive Emergency Response Mobilised

The wildfire prompted a significant emergency response, with the fire being contained around 18:00 on Sunday evening. The operation involved 11 aircraft and ground teams, demonstrating a coordinated effort to manage the situation. Both the PYRSOS and Icarus 2 emergency response plans were activated to tackle the blaze effectively.

Ground teams included 11 fire engines from various Fire Service stations across Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca, and Vasilikos districts. The Forestry Department dispatched 10 fire vehicles, a portable firefighting unit, and 62 personnel, including the department director, to the scene. Additional support came from the Game and Fauna Service, which provided two portable firefighting units, as well as water tankers from Limassol Provincial Administration, police, Civil Defence, and various volunteer groups.

During the intense firefighting effort, individual homes and buildings faced threats from the advancing flames. Fortunately, thanks to the coordinated efforts of emergency services and local community members, the properties were ultimately protected. Residents played an active role in combating the fire, using buckets and branches to help quell the flames.

Following the successful containment of the fire, strong firefighting forces have remained in the area overnight due to the heightened risk of rekindling. Authorities are keen to ensure that the situation is fully under control and that no further threats arise from the remnants of the blaze.
