- A total of 1,002 bottles of counterfeit vodka were seized in Nicosia during a coordinated operation involving searches at four different premises, according to the customs department.
The operation, which took place on Wednesday, revealed a substantial quantity of counterfeit spirits. Authorities discovered 434 bottles of 1 litre each and 568 bottles of 0.7 litres, all of which were found to be infringing on the property rights of a well-known brand of alcoholic beverages.
This seizure highlights a growing issue within the European Union, where counterfeit beverages and food products are among the most frequently confiscated items at borders. The customs department has issued warnings about the potential dangers of consuming these counterfeit goods, emphasising that they can contain toxic and hazardous substances that pose a serious risk to human health.
Customs officials continue to stress the importance of vigilance against the proliferation of counterfeit products, as they can undermine legitimate businesses and endanger consumers. The recent operation in Nicosia serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat these illicit activities and protect public safety.
