Christodoulides expressed gratitude to both US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President al-Sisi for inviting Cyprus to participate in the summit. He noted that being one of only 22 countries invited highlights Cyprus’s active and credible role in the region’s dynamics.

The President outlined that the forthcoming action plan not only addresses the reconstruction of Gaza but also emphasises Cyprus’s involvement in security matters as stipulated by the recent ceasefire agreement. He stated, “We have a specific plan that we will present, which concerns the reconstruction of Gaza with the participation of Cypriot companies, as well as the role of Cyprus in security matters, as provided for by the ceasefire agreement.” Christodoulides further underlined the importance of implementing the first phase of the agreement to advance the peace process.
Cyprus’s Humanitarian Contributions
In discussing the humanitarian role of Cyprus, the President highlighted the country’s capability to act as a stabilising hub in the region. He referred to the successful operation of the “Amalthea” corridor, which facilitated the evacuation of citizens from the conflict area. Furthermore, Cyprus is expected to play a crucial role in managing the entry of humanitarian aid through the CYCLOPS Centre in Larnaca.
Strengthening Diplomatic and Defence Position
As an EU member state, Cyprus is set to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in under 90 days, a development that President Christodoulides believes will enhance the island’s diplomatic standing in the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition to diplomatic efforts, President Christodoulides confirmed that the upgrade of the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base in Paphos is progressing in collaboration with the US.
