eac staff — The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department has issued a warning about scammers posing as Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) employees, targeting residents for fraudulent power restoration services.
- Residents can contact their local police station or reach out to the Limassol CID at 25805057. Additionally, the Citizens’ Hotline is available at 1460 for any reports related to these scams.
In recent days, multiple complaints have surfaced from residents reporting encounters with these impostors. The suspects approach homes and apartment buildings, conversing in Greek and claiming to be EAC personnel sent to resolve electricity outages.
According to police investigations, the fraudsters employ a deceptive tactic to convince residents of their legitimacy. They lower the power supply switch from the external EAC distribution board, creating the illusion of a fault. Once they have fabricated a problem, they restore the switch to its original position, falsely claiming to have repaired the issue. Subsequently, they demand payment for their supposed services.
Police are strongly advising the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant in the face of these scams. They emphasise that EAC staff will never request payment for services rendered at a resident’s home. Anyone encountering similar incidents or suspicious individuals is urged to report it immediately.
