A Perfect Setting by the Sea
As summer evenings beckon, finding the ideal dining spot often becomes a challenge. Should it be air-conditioned or outdoors with a view? For my group, the decision was easy—we craved the refreshing sea breeze, the sound of waves lapping at the shore, and the welcoming vibe of a place we knew would deliver a memorable experience.
Arriving at Royal Ris
Upon arriving at Royal Ris, affectionately dubbed ‘The Margarita bar’, I immediately gravitated towards my go-to drink: a cherry margarita. My partner opted for the classic version, and thus commenced our evening of culinary adventure.
Atmosphere and Ambience
The atmosphere at Royal Ris is casual yet lively, with colourful chairs and tables setting the scene. Diners range from those dressed in smart evening attire to others sporting flip-flops and T-shirts, creating a relaxed environment that feels quintessentially summer.
A Menu to Tempt
The menu at Royal Ris is divided into two sections: one focusing on grill-house classics and the other dedicated to delectable Mexican dishes. Options include burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas, nachos, and fajitas, along with numerous vegetarian choices.
Having missed authentic Mexican food, I found myself captivated by the variety of tempting options. The descriptions were rich, promising melted cheese and well-seasoned fillings. Although I initially considered the burrito, my partner discovered the combo platter—a selection of various dishes. We exchanged amused glances and quickly decided on the platter to share.
Sampling the Flavours
Our friends opted for a spinach and feta quesadilla and a vegetable burrito with feta, while we eagerly anticipated our platter. As we waited, our drinks were replenished, and my cherry margarita was just as delightful as I remembered, with a sugar-coated rim that added a sweet touch.
The Generous Combo Platter
The platter arrived, and it was indeed generous, featuring an enticing assortment of burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas, and nachos, all generously topped with melted cheese. I couldn’t resist diving into the nachos first. While they weren’t the best I’ve ever tasted, the quality cheese elevated the experience. The burrito followed, boasting a well-balanced seasoning and a delightful texture enhanced by the gooey cheese.
Surprisingly, I found the soft tacos to be more enjoyable than expected. Unlike crispy tacos that tend to crumble, the softness allowed the fillings to remain intact, making for a less messy eating experience.
Unexpected Delights on the Menu
Initially, I anticipated that the beef quesadillas would be my highlight of the meal. However, the texture of the minced meat didn’t quite resonate with me. In a fortunate turn, my friend encouraged me to sample their spinach and feta quesadilla. This dish turned out to be the star of the night—rich, cheesy, and unexpectedly deep in flavour thanks to the spinach. I would gladly order this again as my main course.
An Evening to Remember
As the evening unfolded, time slipped away amidst flowing drinks and lively conversation. Royal Ris has a unique charm that goes beyond just the food and cocktails; it’s the entire ambience that captivates. Sitting by the sea, surrounded by friends, vibrant tables, and laughter echoing across the promenade, it embodies the essence of a perfect summer night.
Planning Your Visit
As we finally prepared to leave, satisfied and content, discussions of our return already filled the air. For me, Royal Ris stands out as one of the top spots to enjoy summer evenings in Larnaca, and I know it won’t be long before I return for another cherry margarita.
