A forest fire sparked by a lightning strike in Agios Theodoros, Nicosia district, was swiftly brought under control on Saturday morning. The Department of Forests reported that the blaze ignited early in the day and was effectively managed before it could spread significantly.

Firefighters responded promptly upon notification, launching a coordinated effort to combat the flames. Crews managed to bring the fire under control by 08:45, limiting its impact to a small area of low vegetation.

In total, six personnel from the Department of Forests were involved in the firefighting operation, utilising two fire trucks to tackle the situation. Their quick action prevented what could have been a more extensive fire, underscoring the importance of rapid response in forest fire management.

Authorities continue to monitor the area as a precaution, ensuring that the fire remains contained and that there are no lingering hotspots. This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather-related events, particularly during the warmer months when lightning strikes can lead to dangerous situations in forested regions.
