Water pressure in Larnaca will be reduced from February 24 as part of efforts to conserve supplies, the district local district government (EOA) announced on Thursday. This decision comes in light of the challenging water situation currently faced by the country.

  • As the reduced water pressure takes effect on February 24, residents are reminded of the importance of cooperating with these guidelines to help alleviate the water crisis.

The EOA expressed concerns regarding the water scarcity, urging the public to actively participate in water-saving measures to help avert more stringent restrictions in the future. “The particularly difficult water situation our country is going through” necessitates a collective effort to conserve this vital resource.

To assist residents, the local authorities have recommended that buildings, particularly apartments, install an 800-litre tank on the ground floor or in the basement. This tank should be equipped with a pump system to effectively supply water to individual tanks located on the roof. High-rise buildings are also advised to have a water storage tank of similar capacity to ensure adequate water supply for all tenants.

The EOA stressed the importance of having these systems fully functional. Consumers are encouraged to set up the recommended storage solutions where they do not currently exist and to ensure that existing systems are ready for use. This proactive measure will contribute significantly to the overall water conservation strategy.

This initiative follows a prior announcement from the water development department, which set a target of reducing overall water consumption by 10 per cent in response to the persistent water scarcity affecting the island.
