average salary — The average salary in Cyprus has risen to €2,452 during the third quarter of 2025, reflecting a 4.3 per cent increase from the same period the previous year, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).
This growth in earnings has been noted from July to September 2025, with gross salaries climbing from €2,352 recorded in the third quarter of 2024. The data also indicated a steady upward trend, with seasonally adjusted figures showing a quarterly increase of 0.7 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2025.
Average salary: Gender Pay Gap Continues
In examining the earnings by gender, it was found that male employees earned an average gross monthly salary of €2,622, while female employees earned €2,238 in the same period. Year-on-year comparisons reveal that men experienced a 3.8 per cent increase in earnings, while women saw a sharper rise of 4.9 per cent. Seasonally adjusted figures indicated a quarterly increase of 0.3 per cent for men and a higher 1.2 per cent for women.
Income Distribution Highlights Disparities
The data also sheds light on income distribution among employees, revealing significant disparities. Approximately 36.5 per cent of employees earned less than €1,500 per month. The largest group, making up 39.7 per cent, fell into the €1,500 to €2,999 income bracket. Higher earners remain a minority, with only 12.7 per cent earning between €3,000 and €4,499, and 5 per cent earning €6,000 or more.
Among Cypriot employees, the distribution shows that 43.9 per cent earned between €1,500 and €2,999, while 30.2 per cent earned less than €1,500. In contrast, nearly half of non-Cypriot employees (49.1 per cent) earned under €1,500, indicating a marked difference in income levels based on citizenship.
Employment Data Insights
The earnings figures are based on comprehensive data from the Social Insurance Services, which includes all employees except those working for private households or extraterritorial organisations. It encompasses various elements such as basic salary, allowances, overtime, bonuses, and other payments made during the reference period. Notably, irregular employment cases, such as those with limited hours or only receiving arrears, are excluded from this dataset.
Temporary Wage Adjustments Not Affecting Gross Earnings
Cystat clarified that temporary wage deductions or contributions made during previous fiscal adjustments do not influence the gross earnings reported, which reflect total remuneration before any deductions. This ensures a more accurate representation of employees’ earnings.
