knife attack — A 32-year-old man is in critical condition after a knife attack in Larnaca, according to police reports from Saturday. The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 5.15pm when authorities received a call regarding an injured individual outside a shop.

  • The injured man underwent surgery at Larnaca general hospital and remains hospitalised. Fortunately, his condition has improved and was later described as out of danger.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the man with a severe abdominal wound. Bystanders were attempting to assist him when police intervened. The victim later recounted that he was assaulted with a knife by an unknown assailant who also stole his mobile phone.

Knife attack: Details Surrounding the Attack

Giorgos Charalambous, the head of Larnaca police, stated that the man described the assailant as having exited a passing vehicle before attacking him without provocation. Subsequently, the attacker fled the scene. An initial examination of the area revealed no blood at the site where the victim was found, although small stains were detected in the stairwell of a nearby apartment building.

Evidence from the Scene

Following the victim’s hospital transfer, emergency responders discovered bloody apartment keys believed to have fallen from him at the ambulance pickup location. This evidence prompted police to obtain a search warrant for the apartment rented by the victim via Airbnb just two days prior to the incident.

Substance Seizures and Ongoing Investigations

Police conducted a search of the apartment and seized several items, including 6.5 grams of a crystal substance, a bottle with traces of a similar substance, a grinder with cannabis residue, a plastic container with traces of white powder, two precision scales, and €300 in cash.

Charalambous indicated that, given the severity of the victim’s injuries, the actual crime scene might differ from where he was discovered. Evidence suggests that the man was seen in a nearby field shortly before the attack, already sustaining injuries.

Victim’s Current Condition

The injured man underwent surgery at Larnaca general hospital and remains hospitalised. Fortunately, his condition has improved and was later described as out of danger.
