Two cars remain trapped in Larnaca salt lake for a fifth consecutive day after a driver illegally entered the protected wetland last Wednesday. This incident unfolded when a second vehicle attempted to assist the first, ultimately leading both to become stuck in the muddy conditions exacerbated by recent rainfall.

Both vehicles found themselves ensnared in the wetland due to increased rainfall over the preceding days. The situation worsened with additional rain on Sunday, making any attempts at removal significantly more challenging. The owners of the vehicles have already been fined €2,000 by the relevant authorities for their unlawful entry into the protected area.

In addition to the initial fine, the owners will face substantial costs for the extraction operation. Larnaca municipality has stepped in to manage the recovery process and has enlisted the help of a private company equipped with large cranes.
