The Bank of Cyprus Marathon will lead to significant traffic disruptions in Nicosia this Sunday, with major road closures lasting up to seven hours. The event is set to commence early in the morning, prompting the Nicosia Municipality to announce temporary traffic arrangements to ensure the safe conduct of the races and smooth movement for participants and spectators.
Bank of: Road Closures Scheduled for Sunday
On 18 January, Nicosia Municipality shared a detailed plan for road closures throughout the city. These closures are necessary to facilitate the marathon, which is expected to attract a large number of participants and spectators.
Western Section Road Closures
In the western section of Nicosia, several key roads will be closed starting from 05:45 until 13:00. The affected roads include:
- Rigainis Street
- Paphos Street
- Egypt Street
- Kinira Street
- Nechrou Street
- Museum Street
- Lord Byron Street
Additionally, Agiou Prokopiou Avenue and Archangelou Michael Avenue will be closed until 10:30. The left lanes on Egypt Street, parts of Lord Byron Street, sections of Georgiou Griva Digeni Avenue, and Agiou Prokopiou Avenue will also experience closures up to the traffic lights near Apollonio Hospital. On Lord Byron Street, the right lanes from Michail Karaoli traffic lights to those near Georgiou Griva Digeni Avenue will be shut down, as will parts of Georgiou Griva Digeni Avenue from the 28th October traffic lights up to the Kolokasidi roundabout.
Eastern Section Road Closures
Meanwhile, in the eastern section, closures will take effect from 05:45 until 12:45. The left lanes on Omirou Street, Stasinou Avenue, and Archbishop Makarios II Avenue near Olympiakos Nicosia stadium will be closed. Full closures will impact:
- Konstantinou Palaiologou Street
- Nikiforou Foka Street
- Athens Street
- The left lane of Vasileos Georgiou II Street
- Spirou Christodoulou Street
- Christaki Christofidi Street
- Egeos Street
- Archbishop Makarios III Street
- Synergasias Street
Agios Ilarionas Street will see closures up to the Bata roundabout, with the left lane shut to Kolokotroni Street traffic lights. Markou Botsari Street will also be closed during the marathon.
