Mixed Results in Japan and China

While production in Japan rose by 7 per cent, the country faced a 4 per cent decline in vehicle sales. Toyota has not provided specific reasons for this downturn, leaving analysts to speculate about potential market conditions. In contrast, production in China saw a decline of 6 per cent, with sales dropping by 7 per cent, largely due to the cessation of subsidy programmes in various regions, which had previously supported consumer purchasing.

Year-to-Date Performance

Looking at the broader picture, Toyota has sold 8.7 million vehicles globally in the first ten months of the year. Notably, hybrids have made a significant impact, constituting 42 per cent of total sales, while battery electric vehicles accounted for just under 2 per cent. These figures reflect Toyota’s strategic focus on hybrid technology amidst changing consumer preferences and environmental considerations.
