A toddler has sustained serious head injuries after a scooter struck the child’s mother while they were crossing a pedestrian area in Limassol. The incident took place around 3:20pm on Monday, 8 December, as the 43-year-old woman was navigating a pedestrian crossing on the cycle path along 28th October Street.
According to police reports, the scooter rider, who was travelling on the cycle path, collided with the mother under circumstances that are currently being investigated. The force of the impact caused both the mother and her 16-month-old child to fall to the ground, resulting in the toddler suffering serious injuries.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, transporting the child to a local polyclinic in Limassol. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was subsequently transferred to Archbishop Makarios III Hospital in Strovolos, Nicosia. Medical professionals at the hospital have described the child’s condition as serious but stated that the toddler is currently out of immediate danger.
Following the collision, the scooter rider fled the scene, prompting a swift response from local authorities. The Limassol Traffic Department has since launched an investigation to identify and locate the individual responsible for the incident.
