gaza flotilla — gaza flotilla — Supporters were allegedly blocked from accessing the Global Sumud Flotilla ship, the “Vivy Sabre”, docked in Kato Paphos, with activists claiming they were prevented from delivering essential supplies to the crew on Thursday.
Green party MP Andreas Evlavis expressed frustration over the sudden restriction, stating, “It was okay yesterday and suddenly I am not allowed to get in anymore.” Evlavis has been actively providing food and water to the crew on-site.
The ship’s five-person crew originally comprised two Italians, one Spaniard, one Moroccan, and one Mexican. However, after the Italians departed on Monday, only the latter three remain. Spanish activist Kim Del Rio noted the disparity in freedom of movement, saying, “As a European citizen, I can leave the ship freely but my other two comrades are forced to stay on board.” He added that while they currently have sufficient resources, the situation remains precarious if access to the vessel continues to be restricted.
The foreign ministry has condemned the actions of Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir, which they described as “completely unacceptable”. This statement followed the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces in the eastern Mediterranean. The ministry’s public statement on X highlighted that Ben Gvir’s actions are “incompatible with democratic norms and the fundamental values of human dignity.” They called for immediate corrective measures and accountability for his conduct.
Furthermore, the ministry declared that “such reprehensible behaviour can never be tolerated” and welcomed remarks from Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, distancing themselves from Ben Gvir’s actions.
