The municipality of Strovolos is taking significant steps to improve direct communication with schools, as announced by mayor Stavros Stavrinidis during a recent meeting with school representatives. This initiative aims to tackle local issues effectively by establishing a streamlined communication channel between school administrators and neighbourhood social workers.
At the heart of this initiative is the new role of neighbourhood social workers, designed to identify and address community problems promptly. By facilitating a direct line of communication, the municipality hopes to foster a proactive approach in resolving issues that may affect students and their families.
This programme is part of a broader effort under the “Restructuring of Social Welfare Services” project, which has received co-funding from the European Union. The Strovolos municipality is collaborating with social welfare services to implement this initiative, highlighting the importance of community involvement in education and welfare.
During the meeting, which took place on Friday, Stavrinidis emphasised the need for school administrations to report any challenges they encounter as soon as they arise. He pointed out that immediate reporting would allow for quicker solutions and better support for the students and their families in Strovolos.
The neighbourhood social worker programme not only aims to improve communication but also to strengthen the links between schools and the community. By having dedicated social workers engage directly with educational institutions, the municipality believes that issues such as bullying, family crises, and mental health concerns can be addressed more efficiently.
Stavrinidis reiterated the municipality’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents through effective social services. He encouraged a collaborative effort among educators, parents, and social workers to create a supportive environment for children.
This proactive initiative reflects a growing recognition of the vital role that social services play in education and community welfare. As Strovolos moves forward with the neighbourhood social worker programme, stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on local schools and the wider community.
