stroumbi fire — stroumbi fire — Firefighters have been battling a blaze in Stroumbi, located between the villages of Paphos and Kili, throughout the night. By daybreak on Monday, they had effectively extinguished all active fronts of the fire.
According to fire department spokesman Andreas Kettis, the fire has burned approximately 75 hectares of land. Fortunately, Kettis confirmed that there would be no need to request assistance from abroad to combat the flames. “The situation with the fire is much better. The firefighting forces were working all through the night,” he stated, highlighting the dedication of the teams involved.
Efforts to control the fire included various teams from the fire department, forestry department, and the game fund, all working in unison to tackle the blaze. A drone equipped with a thermal camera was deployed on Sunday night, helping to identify hot spots that required immediate attention. This technology played a crucial role in ensuring that the firefighting teams could effectively put out the flames.
While the main body of the fire has been brought under control, some smaller fires continue to smoulder in ravines, necessitating ongoing efforts from the firefighters. Early on Monday morning, three firefighting planes and a helicopter rejoined the action, reinforcing the ground teams as they worked to completely eradicate the remaining threats.
Kettis reassured the public that firefighting forces would remain in the area until they were confident that the fire was entirely extinguished and there was no risk of reignition. The commitment from all involved has been pivotal in managing this challenging situation.
