  • The number of bounced cheques recorded in Cyprus reached 23 in September 2025, with a total value of €74,655, according to data published on Thursday by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).

This figure marks an increase from August, when 16 cheques were recorded, totalling €52,891. The rise in both the number of bounced cheques and their total value reflects ongoing financial challenges faced by some issuers in the country.

These bounced cheques have been added to the preliminary list maintained by the Central Information Register for issuers of bad cheques. In September alone, 13 entities were included on this list, comprising nine legal entities and four individuals.

A comparison with the same month in 2024 reveals a consistent pattern, with 23 cheques worth €72,185 recorded during that period. This suggests that issues surrounding cheque payment reliability persist in the Cypriot financial landscape.

Looking at the broader picture, from January to September 2025, a total of 184 bounced cheques were registered, amounting to €440,145. This is a decrease in both the number and value of bounced cheques compared to the same period in 2024, which saw 232 cheques valued at €492,677.

These cases involved 95 issuers, including 55 legal entities and 40 individuals. The CBC also noted that in September 2025, seven additional persons were registered in the Central Information Register, including one company, five individuals, and one other individual identified as controlling a legal entity.

In total, from January to September 2025, there have been 87 persons recorded in relation to bounced cheques. This encompasses 30 companies, 23 individuals, and 34 individuals who control companies. Notably, this represents a significant decrease from the same timeframe in 2024 when 163 persons were registered.
