On 21 December 2025, a four-man team will attempt to redefine their endurance limits in an audacious challenge titled “Running Across Cyprus.” The group plans to cover approximately 240 kilometres in less than 24 hours, traversing from the rugged west coast of the Akamas Peninsula to the scenic eastern edge of Cape Greco.

  • Ultimately, the “Running Across Cyprus” challenge is a celebration of perseverance, resilience, and the belief that with determination, anything is achievable.

Team captain Anghelo George Eleftheriou leads Panos Alepis, Constantinos Psaras, and Petros Loizou in a mission that goes beyond mere physical endurance. For Eleftheriou, this journey is a deeply personal endeavour, representing a transformation from his childhood self, often labelled as “non-athletic” and known for finishing last in races.

Running across: A Journey of Self-Discovery

For Eleftheriou, this run is not just about the distance; it is about shedding past limitations and embracing a new identity. “My faith in God has played a massive role in my life, especially in redefining myself,” he shares. The challenge is a testament to how far he has come from being the overweight child who struggled with self-image.

Starting at midnight from Agios Kononas Church, the relay will require each team member to complete multiple 20-kilometre legs, all while battling elevation changes, the cold, and sleep deprivation. Organisers emphasise that the primary goal is to demonstrate a powerful message: “If you put your mind to something, you can achieve anything you want to.”

Tracking the Journey

The public will have the opportunity to follow the entire event through a live GPS tracker, allowing spectators to witness the team’s attempt to set an island-wide record of persistence. “We aim to inspire others, no matter their age, background, gender, etc., that anything you can put your mind to is possible,” Eleftheriou explains.

Preparing for the Challenge

With the daunting task ahead, the team has meticulously planned for various challenges. Eleftheriou believes that mental resilience will be just as critical as physical endurance. “Don’t lose the mental battle,” he advises his teammates, stressing the importance of a champion mindset. Each member will need to support one another through the inevitable moments of crisis and fatigue.

They will have a support vehicle on hand, stocked with painkillers, bandages, and recovery aids. This vehicle will be crucial during the most challenging sections, particularly the terrain in Akamas, which is notorious for its steep elevations and unpredictable weather. “The runner who has to do the 60-80 km part will find it incredibly difficult,” Eleftheriou acknowledges, highlighting the 460 metres of elevation gain they will face.

Embracing the Unknown

As the team prepares for the unknown, they remain focused on their individual goals and the collective mission. “Setting goals is something I have always done, whether that be in business or personal life,” Eleftheriou notes. This structured approach to training has been essential in preparing them for the upcoming challenge.

Through this extreme effort, the team aims to show that even those without a running background can achieve incredible feats. “We set ourselves one of the most challenging things we have ever done, and we don’t even know if we will be able to complete it, but that is the best part—the unknown,” Eleftheriou adds. Their journey will not only be documented through film but will also serve as an inspiration for others facing their own struggles.

Ultimately, the “Running Across Cyprus” challenge is a celebration of perseverance, resilience, and the belief that with determination, anything is achievable.
