dimitriana siapani — Police are investigating the death of 21-year-old Dimitriana Siapani, who passed away at Nicosia General Hospital on 22 October. Her family has raised serious allegations of medical negligence against the hospital, prompting authorities to launch an inquiry.
Dimitriana, originally from Dherynia, had been experiencing severe headaches following a trip to Italy. Concerned for her health, she first sought medical attention at Famagusta General Hospital. After her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with meningitis.
However, her family claims that this diagnosis came only after her symptoms had significantly worsened, placing her in a critical state. “We believe the hospital failed to provide the necessary care in a timely manner,” a family member stated, expressing their frustration over the situation.
In light of these allegations, the family has lodged a formal complaint, which has led to a mandatory autopsy being conducted on Dimitriana’s body. The police confirmed to the Cyprus Mail that they are actively following up on the investigation.
In the wake of this tragic event, the traditional 28 October parade in Dherynia has been cancelled, marking a period of mourning for the community. Local officials and residents are expressing their condolences and support for the family during this difficult time.
