- Pasykaf has welcomed the cabinet's approval of the national cancer institute law of 2026, marking a significant advancement in cancer care management in Cyprus.
The Pancyprian association of cancer patients and friends expressed that the establishment of this autonomous scientific body will enhance the organisation and utilisation of oncology services nationwide.
For many years, the creation of a national cancer institute has been a top priority for Pasykaf. The association noted, “We submitted an official proposal to the health ministry and the national cancer committee in 2016, and this need was also reflected in the national cancer strategy of 2019.”
Pasykaf’s executive director, Nikolas Filippou, described the bill’s approval as a “particularly important development” for both Cyprus and individuals affected by cancer. He stressed that institutionalising such a body will significantly improve service coordination, strengthen the national cancer strategy, and ensure that patients receive comprehensive, high-quality care.
The association underscored the importance of swiftly implementing the institute, stating that proper organisation and coordination of services are vital for enhancing the care and quality of life for cancer patients.
Pasykaf has reaffirmed its commitment to contributing its experience and expertise, aiming to help the national cancer institute evolve into a robust, modern, and dependable resource for cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and care throughout Cyprus.
