- Paphos farmers’ market is nearing completion, promising to rejuvenate the city’s agricultural scene after a decade-long absence.
Located within the Pervola Municipal Car Park, the new outdoor market spans 500 square metres and is part of Paphos’s revitalised traditional commercial centre. This facility is tailored for perishables and other agricultural products, filling a significant void that local residents have long felt.
Deputy Mayor Angelos Onisiforou expressed enthusiasm about the market’s impending opening. He noted, “This facility addresses a significant gap in the city.” The local community has been vocal about their desire for a farmers’ market, a place where they can purchase fresh produce directly from growers. Tourists, too, seek out these experiences, making the market a valuable addition to Paphos’s appeal.
Onisiforou highlighted the advantages for consumers, stating that shoppers will soon enjoy better prices by buying products directly from producers. He added, “Essentially straight from the production site to their plate.” This direct-to-consumer model not only benefits shoppers but also supports local producers by enhancing their financial stability and reducing the influence of middlemen.
The project gained momentum last October when the construction contract was signed. As the final touches are made, anticipation is building among both locals and visitors. The reopening of the Paphos farmers’ market is expected to foster community engagement and support the local economy, making it a highly anticipated event in the city.
