Nicosia’s municipal swimming pool will open to the public on Monday, May 18, marking the return to a full summer season for the first time in several years. Deputy Mayor Chrysanthos Fakas announced the news, highlighting the pool’s daily operational hours of 10:00 to 18:30 until mid-September 2026.

Nicosia pool: Returning to Full Capacity

This year’s opening is particularly significant as last summer the pool only operated from late June, providing just half a season after extensive renovations. Fakas noted that the 2022 reopening attracted enormous visitor numbers, leading to days when the facility had to close its gates due to overcrowding.

Admission Pricing for 2026 Season

Details regarding admission prices for the upcoming season are still pending. The municipal council is set to discuss the pricing in two weeks, following which an official announcement will be made by the Nicosia Municipality. Last year’s prices were structured as follows:

  • Children up to five years old: free
  • Students, soldiers, and university students: €5
  • Adults: €6
  • A couple with two children under 18: €20
  • A couple with three children: €25
  • Organised groups such as summer schools: €3

Seasonal pass prices are expected to undergo some changes this year. Last year’s fees were lowered due to the pool’s limited operational period, so increases between €5 and €30 in certain categories are anticipated. The pricing from 2019, the last year the pool functioned for a full season prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent renovation works, is expected to serve as a benchmark.

2019 Pricing Reference

For reference, the 2019 seasonal pass prices were:

  • Students, soldiers, and pupils up to 18: €55
  • Individual pass: €85
  • Couple: €140
  • Couple with one child: €160
  • Couple with two children: €160
  • Couple with three children: €170
  • Couple with four or five children: €85
  • Couple with six or more children: free
  • Holders of a disability booklet: €42.50

Additionally, free parking will be available on-site, while sunbed hire will cost €2 per lounger.

Aglandjia Pool Renovation

While the Nicosia pool gears up for a busy summer, the Aglandjia municipal pool will remain closed this summer as it undergoes complete renovation. Fakas explained that the Nicosia metropolitan municipality aims to ensure at least one pool is operational at any time.

The Aglandjia pool was closed for an extensive redevelopment when the Nicosia pool reopened last year, and ongoing studies related to the renovation are still in progress. Current projections indicate that it is unlikely the Aglandjia pool will be ready for public use by next summer either.

Anticipating a Busy Season

With the Nicosia pool set to operate for the full summer season, expectations are high for a repeat of the previous year’s success. The combination of a fully operational facility and the promised improvements could lead to increased visitor numbers once again.

As the opening date approaches, residents and visitors alike are eager for a refreshing summer experience at the municipal swimming pool, which stands as a significant recreational facility in Nicosia.
