Plans for an Independent Department
During the inauguration, Minister Damianos outlined ambitious plans to establish an independent paediatric department in the coming months. This new department aims to provide a dedicated hospital infrastructure exclusively for children, with facilities tailored to their unique needs.
“The ultimate target is the creation of an independent department in the coming months, which will provide separate hospital infrastructure exclusively for children,” Damianos stated. He highlighted the importance of having staff that are exclusively paediatricians, ensuring that young patients receive specialised care.
Focus on Infrastructure and Staffing
The new department will feature separate examination rooms for infants and teenagers, as well as short-stay facilities designed for paediatric care. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare services across the national health system (Gesy).
Damianos expressed optimism about the new developments, referencing the successful implementation of the paediatric A&E at Nicosia general hospital. “The experience from the paediatric A&E at Nicosia general hospital gives us confidence that we will achieve the same results in Limassol for the benefit of our young patients and their families,” he remarked.
Improving Patient Care and Reducing Waiting Times
Recognising the urgent need for immediate patient care, the minister, in collaboration with the state health services (Okypy), underlined the importance of reducing waiting times for young patients. He noted, “This will be achieved through the expansion of services and infrastructure in public hospitals, such as the children’s A&E and fast-track clinics.”
Acknowledging Healthcare Workers
In his speech, Damianos expressed gratitude to the dedicated healthcare professionals working in the system. He stated, “Children are the undeniable future of this country,” thanking doctors, nurses, and all hospital staff for their invaluable services. His comments reflect a deep appreciation for the essential role that healthcare workers play in providing care to the youngest and most vulnerable patients.
Commitment to Vulnerable Groups
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising health, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children. He stated, “The current government has set health as a priority, particularly upgrading the services offered to vulnerable groups, and for this reason they have been investing in staffing, infrastructure and equipment.”
A Vision for the Future
The inauguration of the children’s waiting area is a step towards a more child-friendly healthcare environment. With plans for further improvements in the Limassol general hospital, the government aims to ensure that children receive the best possible care.
Damianos concluded his remarks by emphasising that the ultimate beneficiaries of these upgrades will be the patients themselves, highlighting the government’s ongoing commitment to improving health services for all.
