teacher assaulted — teacher assaulted — A mother has filed a police complaint alleging a teacher at a Paphos primary school pulled, pushed and tripped her six-year-old son, causing facial injuries and bleeding, on 15 January.
The mother claims the incident went far beyond a simple slap. Fully adopting her child’s account, she alleges the teacher pulled the Year 1 pupil by his hand, pushed him, and tripped him, causing him to hit a classmate’s desk.
The impact left him injured under the eye with bruising, while his lips broke internally and bled, the mother told Sigma TV. She described the traumatic experience, highlighting that her son returned home visibly shaken and afraid.
According to the complaint, after the teacher allegedly assaulted her son, he was lifted again by the hand, held, and confined at the board, which prevented him from seeking help or cleaning the blood. In a moment of desperation, the child managed to escape through another classroom door and ran for assistance.
The school contacted the mother, informing her that her son had been injured and needed to be collected immediately. Despite her repeated questions, she did not grasp the severity of the injury until she arrived at the school and found her child seriously hurt, leading her to notify her husband right away.
The mother further alleges that the same teacher had previously assaulted another child. A student had run to request help from the class supervisor, who then came to the classroom and encountered the mother’s child on the way, assisting him in rinsing the blood.
This incident reportedly began when the child “got up from his seat and went to sit at another desk,” according to the mother. She believes such an action should never warrant the response her son received.
Police have taken a statement from the child, and the Education Ministry has been informed of the situation. Giorgos Giallouridis, a primary education officer at the Education Ministry’s Paphos office, confirmed that a complaint exists from the mother regarding the incident. He visited the primary school to begin investigating the matter.
Despite the allegations, the teacher continues to teach at the school, while the mother states that her son remains at home, struggling with fear after the incident. She is now requesting the teacher’s removal, hoping for her son to return to a sense of normalcy.
