A 45-year-old man is facing 15 charges related to the possession and production of child pornography, some of which involve his own daughter. The case has drawn significant attention due to its disturbing nature, with proceedings scheduled to commence in early March at the Limassol Criminal Court.

On Wednesday, the court adjourned the case, allowing the defendant to remain free under strict conditions while awaiting trial. The charges against him include possession, acquisition, production, and distribution of child pornography. Authorities reported finding approximately 700 image files and over 10 video files in his possession, many of which feature his underage daughter.

The disturbing revelations began last summer when a detective from a US state police station was assigned to an undercover investigation focused on crimes against children. During this operation, the detective engaged in conversations on a specific app and uncovered the man’s illicit activities.

Using a pseudonym, the undercover officer presented herself as the mother of two minors. This ruse led the man to disclose his actions involving his own daughter, prompting authorities to launch a detailed investigation. The Cyprus Police arrested him in November, initially charging him with child sexual abuse and possession of child pornography.

Following his arrest, the investigation expanded significantly. Authorities received alerts from Europol, which detected conversations between the suspect and other individuals beyond the undercover officer. This information was crucial in identifying the 45-year-old and analysing his digital data.

Further examination of emails and devices revealed him as the owner of the incriminating materials. An intensive search of his residence by the Electronic Crime Unit led to the discovery of mobile phones and laptops. Forensic analyses of these devices confirmed the existence of photographs depicting his underage daughter.

This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding child exploitation and the critical role of law enforcement agencies in tackling such crimes. The upcoming trial is expected to bring more details to light as the court examines the evidence presented against the defendant.
