Limassol’s Kourion municipality is set to establish a new industrial zone in Kokkinokampos, driven by the rising demand for storage and light industry in the region. This strategic project, which will provide direct access to the Limassol–Saittas motorway, aims to cater to the growing needs of businesses in the wider Limassol district.
The development has gained momentum as local authorities work towards the establishment of a fully organised industrial area. Positioned east of Ypsonas’ Third Industrial Zone and south of the former Vati landfill, the site is primed for development due to its accessibility and untapped potential.
Mayor Pantelis Georgiou has been vocal about the progress being made, announcing that the municipality has completed all necessary studies and secured required approvals from relevant government departments. In a formal communication to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the municipality requested the initiation of the expropriation process, deemed essential for the project’s implementation.
“At this stage, it will be examined how the expropriations are to be amended,” Georgiou explained, noting that the ministry has provided expropriation lists prepared in 2022 as part of the project’s initial steps. Following the approval of updated lists, the ministry will proceed with further procedures, paving the way for the local authority to commence construction.
“God willing, following the approval of the expropriation lists, the relevant procedure will proceed on the part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,” he added, expressing optimism that tendering for construction works could begin before the end of 2026.
The vision for the Kokkinokampos Industrial Zone includes facilities primarily for storage, addressing the increasing demand for warehousing space in the area. Additionally, the plans feature small manufacturing units for industries such as metal constructions and carpentry, all designed to operate within a structured and legally organised environment.
Georgiou highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it will provide businesses with modern premises located conveniently close to Limassol, yet outside the city’s congested urban areas. The recent completion of the first phase of the Limassol–Saittas road enhances the zone’s appeal, offering rapid access to and from the city, which is expected to attract industrial and storage use.
Local officials anticipate that the new industrial zone will not only fulfil the burgeoning need for storage but also alleviate congestion in existing industrial areas, thereby improving the overall functionality of Limassol. Kokkinokampos has remained largely undeveloped until now, presenting a unique opportunity for rational planning and development without the limitations posed by pre-existing structures.
As the municipality continues to advance the project, it aims to bolster business activity and strengthen the economic landscape of the Limassol district by creating a well-planned industrial environment. With studies completed and approvals secured, the initiative is on track for implementation, setting the stage for Kokkinokampos to become a future hub for storage and light industrial activity.
