  • Limassol has taken a significant step towards sustainability with the introduction of Green Kiosks, designed to promote the reuse and recycling of materials throughout the district.

On Monday, the Limassol district government organisation, in collaboration with the environment department, announced the installation of sixteen Green Kiosks. These kiosks will be operational in various communities including Arakapas, Kalo Chorio, Palodia, and Apaisia, among others.

The initiative is part of the LIFE-IP CYzero WASTE project, which aims to prioritise waste prevention, reuse, and recycling across Cyprus. Funded through the EU recovery and resilience plan, the project seeks to address waste management, particularly in areas that lack adequate waste collection systems.

Each Green Kiosk acts as a small sorting centre for recyclable materials, making it easier for residents in rural and mountainous areas to dispose of their waste responsibly. The kiosks accept a variety of materials, including plastic, paper, metal, intact glass, special waste like batteries and light bulbs, as well as used items ready for reuse, such as books and clothing.

By establishing these kiosks, Limassol aims to encourage a culture of recycling and to make the process more accessible to its residents. The initiative reflects a growing awareness of environmental issues and the importance of sustainable practices in daily life.
