Sub-Inspector Georgios Charalambous, head of Larnaca CID, reported that the suspect confessed to setting fire to the cabin where he had been living as well as cars owned by a local mechanic that were not in use. According to Charalambous, the individual revealed that his actions were driven by economic hardship. He expressed frustration over his socio-economic situation, which had forced him to live in a cabin on the shoreline.
