- A fire that broke out Sunday morning in the area between Omodos and Mandria has been brought under full control after a rapid response from local authorities.
The blaze, which scorched approximately three hectares of wild vegetation in the Asprovouni region, was reported to have started near an agricultural road close to an abandoned livestock pen. The quick action by emergency services was crucial in preventing further spread of the fire.
Fire: Emergency Efforts Mobilised
At around 09:30, the Fire Service deployed four fire engines from Limassol’s rural stations to tackle the flames. These were soon joined by two additional vehicles from the Department of Forests, enhancing the firefighting capabilities on the ground. The response teams faced challenges during their efforts due to strong winds in the area, which complicated firefighting efforts.
Investigation Launched
The Cyprus Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. As preliminary reports suggest the fire began near an agricultural road, authorities will be examining the area closely for any potential leads.
