- More than 70 guests at a Limassol wedding reception last weekend fell ill with food poisoning symptoms, prompting an urgent investigation by the Ministry of Health's Health Services.
- In a related note, officials are also investigating a second food poisoning incident that occurred at a different location, exploring the possibility that the two cases may be connected.
The events unfolded after the wedding, where 39 guests from Limassol and approximately 35 from Paphos reported feeling unwell. Of those affected, 18 individuals, including children, required hospitalisation. The couple hosting the celebration indicated that symptoms had begun to appear in around 50 guests shortly after the reception.
Irodotos Irodotou, head of the Health Services, confirmed that immediate action was taken upon notification of the incident. “We immediately launched investigations, as well as conducting personal interviews with the affected guests. An on-site inspection was carried out, food samples were taken, and the operation of the suspect premises has been suspended,” he stated.
Health authorities are currently analysing food and water samples from the venue to determine if specific dishes can be linked to the pathogens responsible for the outbreak. Interviews with guests who experienced symptoms are ongoing to establish a clearer connection.
