A kitchen fire broke out in a two-storey house in Aglantzia on Saturday afternoon, 27 December, due to a faulty power bank. According to the Fire Service, the blaze extinguished itself before fire crews arrived but caused significant damage to electronic equipment and left the entire property scarred by smoke.
Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis confirmed that the homeowner was away when the fire started. A joint investigation with the Electromechanical Services revealed that the power bank, which was being used to charge computers, was the cause of the incident.
Although the flames remained contained to the kitchen area, the smoke permeated throughout the house, leading to extensive damage to the interior. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential hazards associated with faulty electronic devices.
