At the age of 16, Michalis began his journey as a radio presenter on Radio Elios, showcasing rock music to local audiences. Now at 45, he continues to foster connections, whether through cooking for friends, leading the Larnaca Cinema Society, or his role at Zedem Media.

As the founder of Zedem Media, an animation studio established in 2008, Michalis has successfully collaborated with notable clients, including TED. The studio, despite its small size, has produced nearly three dozen educational videos for TED, gaining millions of views worldwide. Their work has led to a commission from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where a short film on ancient Greek artefacts is now part of the permanent collection.
Remarkably, Michalis does not consider himself an animator; his background is rooted in a Master’s in Cultural Studies and a diploma in Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management from Columbia College Chicago. This unique blend of skills allows him to act as a bridge between creatives and clients, ensuring clear communication and understanding of project goals.
Motivating a Cultural Shift
Beyond his professional achievements, Michalis is committed to making a positive social impact. As president of the Larnaca Cinema Society since 2013, he has transformed it into a cultural hub aimed at developing audiences for European cinema in Cyprus. The society offers free screenings and spirited discussions, successfully engaging a diverse audience, many of whom have little prior exposure to arthouse films.
Michalis is also the host of a podcast titled Culture & Tonic and has directed the award-winning short film The Parrot Lady. His recent political engagement with Volt Cyprus, where he leads a committee on cultural policy, further reflects his dedication to the arts and media as tools for societal betterment.

A Restless Spirit in Action
Despite his many achievements, Michalis’s journey has not been without challenges. Diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in his early 30s, he recognises the impact of stress on his health. Yet, his passion for his work drives him, as he continues to seek ways to better society through his various projects.
In his downtime, Michalis finds solace in cooking and spending time with his wife, Effie, in their renovated house in Vavatsinia. Gardening and playing backgammon with neighbours provide a much-needed balance to his busy life.
