Pavel Muntyan’s vision for The Noospheric Resonator emerged from his desire to create something meaningful for the island that has become his home. “I wanted to build a place where people could come to meditate, take photos or simply be alone with themselves,” Muntyan explains. This land art installation is a non-commercial project designed as a gift to the island, embodying the love, warmth, kindness, and openness of its people.

Embracing the Island’s Energy
Set against a quiet hillside, the Resonator is situated on land generously lent to Muntyan by a local resident named Antonis. The location is charged with a unique energy—a harmonious blend of wind, sun, sea, and views of the majestic Troodos mountains, making it an ideal spot for meditation and reflection. Muntyan describes the site as a place where visitors can immerse themselves in the natural world, finding solace away from the distractions of modern life.
The Concept of Noosphere
The name Noospheric Resonator is derived from the term noosphere, which refers to the sphere of human consciousness. According to Muntyan, it represents the collective layer of ideas and consciousness that unites humanity—a concept he believes marks the pinnacle of Earth’s evolution, where intellect becomes the driving force of creativity. Through this installation, he aims to create a physical manifestation of this connection: a centre that draws in all that is kind, rational, and humane.
Symbolism in Stone
The labyrinths constructed by Muntyan are replete with rich symbolism. He highlights that stone, being the most ancient material, signifies stability and eternity, while spirals embody movement, evolution, and infinity. The design of The Noospheric Resonator unites these two forces, creating a dialogue between the eternal and the living. At the heart of the installation lies the Labyrinth of Knowledge, consisting of 12 circles and 290 steps, which corresponds to the number of days in human gestation. Muntyan believes that walking silently through this labyrinth allows individuals to symbolically rebirth themselves.
Balancing Masculine and Feminine Energies
Flanking the Labyrinth of Knowledge are two additional formations: the Masculine Labyrinth, crafted from blue stones, and the Feminine Labyrinth, made from red stones. Each labyrinth offers visitors an opportunity to restore balance within themselves. Muntyan explains that these planetary labyrinths, found in diverse cultures worldwide—from the Solovetsky Islands to Scandinavia and the British Isles—serve as ancient symbols of harmony.
Channeling Prosperity
The layout concludes with a space known as the Money Square, designed to channel the energy of prosperity. Adorned with intricate mosaics and bronze fish, crafted by Muntyan himself, this area invites contemplation on abundance and wellbeing. Despite being under construction for a decade, the Resonator continues to evolve, reflecting Muntyan’s belief in spontaneous creation guided by nature’s elements.
Artisan Craftsmanship
Muntyan’s dedication to the project is evident in the artisan craftsmanship that defines The Noospheric Resonator. Everything is created by hand, utilising local stones to maintain the landscape’s integrity. The team typically works on Tuesdays, coinciding with the closure of the nearby Melanda Beach restaurant, ensuring a peaceful environment for their endeavours. Changes made to the installation are often noticeable by the following day, attesting to the hands-on approach of Muntyan and his crew.
Creation as Meditation
For Muntyan, the act of creation serves as a form of meditation. “When you create something, especially in physical space, you enter a state of total concentration and presence,” he shares. He views art and meditation as two expressions of a singular experience, inviting visitors to approach the labyrinths in their own unique ways. Whether engaging in tarot readings, dancing, or simply sitting in silence, what matters most is the sense of calm and peace that envelops them.
