Cyprus innovation: Long-term Partnership for Innovation
On Wednesday, Eurobank announced the renewal of its cooperation agreement with the non-profit organisation Cyprus Seeds for the seventh consecutive year, set to continue until January 2026. This collaboration highlights Eurobank’s dedication to fostering scientific excellence and entrepreneurship across the island.
Supporting Innovative Research
The partnership is designed to facilitate the commercialisation of pioneering scientific research emanating from universities, research institutes, and Centres of Excellence in Cyprus. Cyprus Seeds plays a crucial role in this endeavour by offering grants of up to €50,000, alongside mentorship from international experts, business training, and networking opportunities with overseas investors.
Impact on Research Institutions
Since its inception, the Cyprus Seeds programme has attracted applications from 23 educational and research institutions, providing support to 24 research teams thus far. Notable participants include the University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, and the Cyprus Institute, among others. Additionally, Centres of Excellence such as CYENS and EMME-CARE have also benefitted from this initiative.
Fostering Startup Growth
The contributions from Cyprus Seeds have led to the establishment of six startup companies and one licensing agreement, significantly enhancing the landscape of innovation in the region. This initiative has not only equipped research teams with necessary funding but has also improved their chances of securing competitive grants from various research and innovation programmes.
Bridging Connections
Cyprus Seeds also serves as a vital link between Cyprus and the Greek and Cypriot diaspora, who provide financial backing and international connections. This bridging role has been pivotal in establishing Cyprus Seeds as a trusted entity within the global innovation ecosystem.
Recognition in the International Arena
The organisation’s efforts have been acknowledged on an international scale, receiving accolades such as the Financial Times recognition as one of the Leading Startup Hubs in Europe in 2025, and the Startup Ecosystem Star Award from the International Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Mind the Bridge.
Eurobank’s Strategic Commitment
For Eurobank, investing in research and innovation is crucial for promoting sustainable economic growth and enhancing competitiveness. Through collaboration with Cyprus Seeds, the bank aims to strengthen connections between scientific excellence and the business community, generating a multitude of economic and social benefits.
