The incident took place around 15:00 on Misiaouli and Kavazoglou Street, where the driver, a Greek Cypriot, was travelling eastbound. He struck a 47-year-old foreign national who is a permanent resident of Cyprus. At the time of the accident, she was attempting to cross the road from north to south along with two other individuals.
Drunk driver: Serious Injuries Reported
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was promptly taken to a private hospital by emergency services. Initial assessments revealed that she suffered fractured ribs among other injuries, and she has since been admitted for ongoing treatment and monitoring.
Driver’s Alcohol Level Significantly Over Limit
Upon arrival at the scene, traffic officers conducted a breathalyser test on the driver. The reading was a staggering 93 mg%, which is more than four times the legal limit of 22 mg%. Following this, police arrested the man, who remains detained as investigations continue into the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
